In corporate, commercial, and regulatory litigation, Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler represents regional, national, and international clients and their officers, directors, and employees. Our attorneys have also represented municipal, county, and state governments.

In complex commercial actions, we provide both the capacity to take cases to trial and win, and the necessary experience to resolve matters favorably in settlement or through arbitration or mediation. The litigation department is experienced in a wide range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory areas.

In particular, the Firm has a strong record in the defending broker-dealer firms and their registered representatives in arbitration and litigation alleging securities law violations. Such cases involve allegations of unsuitable trading, unauthorized trading, improper order execution, churning, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and theft.

The lawyers of Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler provide innovative representation in patent and copyright-infringement cases, trade secret disputes, and other intellectual property matters. The litigation department works with the Firm’s business practice to protect and maximize the value of intellectual property, and to protect clients from infringement claims.

Carr v. Rose, et al., 701 A.2d 1065 (D.C. App. 1997): Lease of business premises.

Edlow v. Marriott Hotels: Represented Samuel J. Edlow in breach of contract case. Jury Trial resulted in verdict for plaintiff.

F.C. Cycles International, Inc. v. Fila Sport, S.p.A.: Defended Fila against alleged breach of license agreement claims. Achieved out of court settlement.

FCNB Bank v. East Oliver Street Limited Partnership, et al.: Represented defendant in complex dispute over retroactive charges of interest by the Bank. Achieved out of court settlement.

Hale Shipping Corporation, et al. v. Johnson & Higgins of Pennsylvania, Inc., et al.: Represented plaintiffs against insurance broker. Jury trial  resulted in verdict for plaintiffs.

Howe Investment Ltd. V. Perez y Cia de Puerto Rico, Inc., 96 F.Supp.2d 106 (D. P. R. 2000) Disqualification of counsel.

PTP Industries, Inc. v. Klearfold, Inc., et al. Represent businessmen in dispute relating to appropriate leverage buy-out and the Fraudulent Conveyance Act. Achieved out of court settlement.

Rahman V. Oncology Assoc., et al.: Defense of corporation and officers in wrongful discharge and breach of contract case. Favorable verdict.

In re Jiffy Lube Securities Litigation, 772 F.Supp, 258 (D. Md. 1991) 927 F.2d 155 (4th Cir. 1991) 130 F.R.D. 42 (D. Md. 1990): Shareholders’ securities fraud action.

Johnson v. E.C. Ernst, Inc., 618 F.Supp. 156 (D.D.C. 1985): Misstatements in proxy statement.

Weil, et al. v. Markowitz, et al., 829 F.2d 166 (D.C. Cir. 1987): Securities and tax fraud; diversion of partnership opportunity.

Citrus Group v. Cadbury Beverages, et al.: Defended patent infringement case. Resolved by summary judgement.
