Larry S. Gibson Honored by Prince Hall Masons with Gold Medal of Achievement

At the recent Masonic Convention in Memphis, Tennessee, Larry S. Gibson, Of Counsel at Shapiro Sher and Retired Professor of Law at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, was awarded the Gold Medal of Achievement, the highest honor of the Prince Hall Masons. This prestigious recognition has been presented fewer than 50 times since its creation 70 years ago, underscoring its rarity and significance.

Mr. Gibson’s lifelong dedication to leadership, education, and public service has made a lasting impact in Maryland and beyond. In addition to his distinguished legal career, he is the author of Young Thurgood: The Making of a Supreme Court Justice, the definitive biography of Justice Thurgood Marshall’s early years. His contributions to the legal profession, scholarship, and civic life continue to exemplify the highest ideals of excellence and integrity.

Also during the convention, Maryland Governor Wes Moore was elevated to the 33rd°—the highest degree in Freemasonry.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Larry Gibson on this exceptional honor.
